Bedtime Stories

While I'm giving Sarah her last bottle of the night, usually around 8pm, Chris reads to her. Usually something like Goodnight Moon...well, Monday night, he decided to "stir things up" and read her the Bill of Rights...yes, that's right, the Bill of Rights. And...not only did he read them to her, he posted them in her crib for "future reference".

Gotta love him!!

Oh, and yes...he really did sign her up for the NRA!! (And no, she's not wearing a prison outfit, it's a sock monkey outfit!)

Trip to Reno!

So last week, Grandma Keenan, Sarah, Murphy and Riley and I drove up to Reno for the week! It was a long drive, about 10 hours, but it was great seeing Pop-Pop and Aunt Sheri! Chris then flew up on Thursday night to join us for a long weekend.

Auntie Kathrin and Uncle Jim finally got to meet Sarah!! Whoohoooo!! They came up to Sheri's late Friday night and then we hung out on Saturday until it was time to go to the Fehr and Peers party up in Tahoe. Auntie Bubbs, Uncle Brian and little Amelia then drove up Saturday afternoon and got to play with Sarah while Chris and I were in Tahoe! Grandma and Pop-Pop agreed to babysit Sarah for us - OVERNIGHT at their house!! Yikes!! It was the first time we'd been away from her since she came home from the hospital! It was nice for us, though...we got to stay up late and not have to worry about getting up early the next day with Sarah - plus, it gave my parents time with her. As a matter of fact, they had so much fun, they kept her the next night, too! Chris and I actually got to spend Monday together, without the baby! We went out to a movie (go see Forgetting Sarah Marshall!) and out to dinner before going to Sarah's baptism class (she's being baptised at my mom's church in Reno).

We then drove home, this time with Chris, on Tuesday. Another long drive! I feel so bad for Sarah! She's all strapped into the carseat for so long - I can't imagine how uncomfortable that is for her!

This holiday weekend, we're just taking it easy. We'd planned to go to Huntington Beach, but since it's supposed to be FREEZING (OK - only in the 60's) we've scrapped that idea. I think we'll just run errands and hang out at home - we need to rest up for Sarah's first airplane trip to the Bay Area the following weekend for Amelia's first birthday! On Monday, our friend Elizabeth is coming by to see Sarah and for a BBQ (weather permitting, of course)!

Sarah's doing well, otherwise. She's so much fun! She LOVES her new playmat, with the kickboard that lights up and plays music when she kicks it! She just laughs and talks the whole time she's on it! Having some trouble with her and tummy-time though...everytime I put her down on her tummy, she falls asleep!!! We've been practicing her sitting up though (from a reclining position) and that seems to be helping her neck muscles develop...she even tried to sit up on her own today, without holding my fingers!!

2 Month Doctor Visit

Today was Sarah's 2 month checkup with the doctor - I can't believe it's been more than 2 months since I had her!!

She's up to 11 pounds and 22&1/4 inches!! Right smack-dab in the middle of the growth chart - the doctor is really pleased!

She also got her 2 month vaccinations. It was so hard watching her get those shots!! I cried almost as much as she did! I've given her a couple doses of Tylenol (doctor's suggestion) and she seems to be doing well! No fever and after her typical nightly meltdown, seems just fine - she was even smiling tonight!

We're off to Reno tomorrow with Grandma Keenan and Riley and Murphy. It's going to be a long drive but we can't wait to see Pop-Pop and Aunt Sheri tomorrow!

New Outfit!

Guess who bought this one? And don't you just LOVE the Mary Jane socks with it? What else would a girl in camo where?

Guess what else Daddy did? The little princess is now a Junior Member of the NRA!

Great...

A Zoo!

The last 2 nights have been unbelievable around here! Thursday night - well, actually, it was Friday morning at 2:00, I'd just finished feeding Sarah and was walking back to bed when I heard a funny noise on the stairs, I look over the ledge and there's a cat running down the stairs! This wouldn't be a problem except we don't own a cat!! So I start yelling for Chris...there's a cat in the house! So he gets out of bed to run downstairs to find it, mom hears me (she'd just flown down that night) and she's getting out of bed to help find it, too. Luckily, the dogs were passed out asleep in her room (great watch-dogs, huh?), so they didn't hear the cat until she/he started meowing like crazy, then they went nuts! The cat moved from under the kitchen table, to behind the recliner then finally up the stairs to our bedroom, under the dresser. In the meantime, mom and I are closing all the bedroom, bathroom doors we can but we left the front and back door wide open, hoping he/she would go out on it's own. I finally moved the dresser and Chris was able to catch the cat, wrap it up in a towel and put it outside...all without being scratched or bitten. We finally let Murphy and Riley out of the guest bedroom and opened the door to Sarah's room and Murphy ran in to check on his "baby" to make sure she was ok - Riley ran downstairs looking for food.

Then THIS morning, mom went downstairs with Sarah to feed the dogs, they'd already gone out and the back door was open (typical, so they can go in and out on their own). I'm upstairs putting Sarah's laundry away and Chris was still sleeping. Mom then yells out, Oh My God - There's A BIRD In The House!! Yup...a robin had come in through the open back door and was walking around the kitchen! I ran down the hall and yelled for Chris - he couldn't believe we had ANOTHER animal in the house! We were trying to get the dogs to stay upstairs, but the bird was so freaked out it was screaming and the dogs were NOT going to stay upstairs! The bird was trying to fly out the kitchen window (above the sink) and kept hitting the glass. Mom finally threw a baby blanket over it and was able to get it outside onto the hill (so the dogs wouldn't go after it). Murphy is still jumping up to see what's above the sink!

What a crazy couple of days, huh? Wonder what we'll have visiting tomorrow? A raccoon?

A Good Night!

We tried one of the Sleep Through The Night tips from What to Expect the First Year and it worked!! She ate at 8pm, then again at midnight and at 2:45am she started crying a little bit, so I let her cry a few minutes and it didn't stop, so I went into her room to check on her. She had wiggled out of her positioner and across the crib...her legs were scrunched up against the bumper! I slid her back into the positioner and put her paci back in her mouth...she was asleep before I left the room. She then woke up again about 30 minutes later, so I went back in, rubbed her tummy and gave her back the paci and she fell back to sleep...until 5am!! Hooray!! After eating, she fell back to sleep until about 8am and when I went in to get her, she was smiling and laughing - it was so cute! The pic is from my Blackberry, so it isn't the "best" but you get the gist!

2 Months Old!

Yup! Our little princess is now 2 months old! I can't believe it's been 2 months already! She's getting so big! Almost too big for her bouncy chair in the picture!

She smiles and laughs and loves to hold her head up and look around when I carry her around. She's also awake a lot more during the day and loves to play on her gymini mat - with Riley and Murphy! They're ALL learning to share their toys - especially Riley!

We're going to start working on getting her to sleep through the night. She was doing pretty well for awhile - waking up at 3am then sleeping until 7am, but for some reason, she doesn't like that schedule anymore...now she's up at 1am, 4am and 6:30am...fun times!

Grandma and Grandpa Gray were here for a week to meet Sarah and help out since Chris had his surgery last Thursday (kidney stone removal). It was great seeing them!!

Grandma Keenan is coming to visit Thursday and will then drive up to Reno with Sarah, Murphy, Riley and me (too much to do by myself) next Tuesday. We can't wait to see her!

This Thing Rocks!

We bought a Homedics Sound Spa Lullaby Relaxation Machine for Sarah's room. Not that she really needs help falling asleep but she does like to listen to music...it relaxes her. I read about this product on a parenting message board...they called it "Crack for babies".

It's so cool! It has 3 different sounds and 3 different lullaby songs. You can have the music play continuously (all night) or you can set the timer to have it play in 15 minute increments up to 1 hour. The really cool part (for Sarah, anyways) is that it comes with discs that you put in the machine that projects moving pictures up on the ceiling (or wall, you can change it)! She LOVES it! Last night she was hungry and her bottle was taking forever (at least to her anyway) so she was crying like crazy...Chris turned on the music and the pointed the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star disc up to the ceiling above her...she actually stopped crying as soon as she saw it and started smiling! It was fantastic! It also helps Chris and me sleep...we can hear the music through the video monitor!

Now we just have to get Murphy to stop barking at it!! Then we'll be set!
