The Stomach Flu...

has hit our household! The little miss has had diarrhea since Thursday started throwing up yesterday. I found out on Friday that 2 kids went home with it on Thursday, so we figured it was inevitable that it would get worse for Sarah. She'd seemed out of sorts all week...not really eating or drinking and doing a lot of leg stretches...now we know why! We're supposed to go to a BBQ in OC tomorrow - think we're pretty much going to have to cancel that one and we're supposed to go to a birthday party on Monday - we'll see how we're doing tomorrow before we decide on that one. We don't want to get anyone else sick...and Chris and I are waiting to come down with it as well. Thank you Kindercare for making my holiday weekend a memorable one!!

P.S. Cherry Pedialyte STAINS carpets!! Yup...the poor baby threw it up last night. Thought we got it all up but in the light of day (today) we noticed the big red stain...Resolve won't get it out so we're hoping some OxyClean will take care of it!

Before I Was Mommy

I saw this on a friend's blog, which she got in an email and I just had to put it out here...

Before I was "Mommy,"
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was "Mommy,"
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was "Mommy,"
I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was "Mommy,"
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was "Mommy,"
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so Important and happy.

Before I was "Mommy,"
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to
make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache,
The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a mother.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was "Mommy."

Such a Big Girl!

We've been working on her sitting up. For awhile now she's been sitting up in the frog or tripod pose...it works but just for a few seconds, then she gets tired. But, now she can sit up pretty well, just like a "big girl"! I put her in front of her aquarium this morning in her crib and she loves it! She sat like this for 5 minutes before falling over...

Guess it's time to move the monitor...

out of the crib!! I had moved it out awhile ago but since she's been sick, I wanted to make sure I could keep a really close eye on her at night so I moved it back in...

First Day...

So Sarah and I each had our own First Days in the last week. I started back to work after taking a 5 month maternity leave and Miss Sarah started Daycare!! It was the one of the hardest things I've ever had to do...hand my baby over to someone else to care for her. I've been missing her HORRIBLY during the day...just writing this brings tears to my eyes, BUT I know that this is the best thing for BOTH of us. She is going to meet new people (adults and kids), make friends and learn all kinds of things. I call everyday and each time they tell me she's smiling and playing and from what I've seen, in the pics Kindercare sent home with her the other day, she is having a great time! It has gotten easier, each day I go in and I can't wait for 4:30pm to arrive each day! I RUN out the door to go pick her up! Her huge smile when I see her makes it almost worth it...And yes, she already has a cold!

A new friend!

"Hey! Who are you?"

Look at me! I can almost sit up!

Ooooo...what's all this fun stuff??

Aunt Sher-Bear is the Baby Whisperer! She's the only one who can get Sarah to laugh this way!!

New Things Sarah Learned This Past Week

1. How to roll over from her tummy to her back (she's been rolling over from her back to her tummy for a few weeks now).
2. How to put her paci in her mouth...by herself!
3. How to blow raspberries and it's usually with a mouthful of food or saliva (see teething? post)
4. She also started jabbering like CRAZY!! And in a voice and pitch I've never heard from her before!

Not a bad week for such a little girl!

Teething?

We don't see or feel any teeth yet but she's drooling even more than ever...it's just pouring out of her and she's coughing a little bit...I think it might be the excess saliva in her mouth. She's also not really eating and when she does, it's like a third of what she normally eats. She's also sucking on her fingers a lot and pulling at her gums...and the crankiness is almost unbearable. I gave her some tylenol because she just didn't seem right and wouldn't stop crying/fussing (for 3 hours which is so unlike her!) and it helped for about an hour so I then gave her 2 of the Hyland's Teething Tablets and it seemed to help...She's also waking up during the night which she never does...Hopefully this tooth (or teeth?) will come in soon!!

Sarah and Her Pop-Pop

I'm sure he'll be mad at me for posting these pics...dad is so self-conscious, but he just beams when he looks at his little angel, I just wanted to share them!

Sarah, her Godparents (Aunt Sheri and Pop-Pop) and Father Healy

Even though it wasn't what was planned, Sarah's baptism was absolutely beautiful, not only because of the ceremony but because of the amazing people that were there with us to help celebrate such a wonderful day. Her gown was made for and worn by her great-grandfather back in 1913. She wore the rosary I carried in my bouquet when I married Chris, the beautiful cross given to her by Aunt Lori and Uncle Brian, Amelia and Linda, an aquamarine and diamond necklace given to her by her Grandma and Pop-Pop and a Blessed Mother pin. We lit the same baptism candle that was used during my baptism 39 years ago.

A beautiful day!
